Leicester City players Richard Stearman and Joey Mattock have been called up by under 21 boss Stuart Pearce for the games against Bulgaria and Portugal

Injuries to Pearce’s original squad selection has meant that Mattock, who had previously been selected at U-19 level, and Stearman now find themselves involved with the squad.

The last player to take to the field at U-21 level was Jordan Stewart almost 5 years ago.

The call ups are testament to the work done by Jon Rudkin with the youth academy and he said

‘It is a great honour for Joe and Richard.

‘It will prove to be a great experience for them; working in and around some of the Premier League’s top young players.

‘The call-up is recognition of all their hard work and effort and hopefully they will benefit from the experience.’

City fans will be hoping the experience will help develop the two players, both of whom have made significant contributions to the first team this season.

And more callups in the future could be on the way as the youth team continues to provide such talents as Billy Kee.
