A disappointing performance from Leicester saw them fall to Burnley on Saturday as two caretaker managers battled in out in an effort to present their case for the full time job.

After the effort put in by Leicester it would appear that any chance Frank Burrows had of being appointed manager have no gone. Both fans and chairman were united in their disappointment with both the result and the performance against a Burnley side that have not conceded a goal at The Walkers.

Leicester came into the game after an encouraging run in the League under Burrows, picking up 5 points from their last 3 games, there was further encourage as the squad revealed three City players returning from injury, captain Stephen Clemence returned to the starting eleven and Iain Hume and James Wesolowksi were both named on the bench.

Kenton kept his place in the side and the expense of James Chambers who made way for Clemence, Joey Mattock came in for the suspended Alan Sheehan in a straight swap on the left side of the now familiar 5 man midfield.

City continued there 3 pronged attack approach fielding Cort, Fryatt and Campbell, with Collins John on the bench.

Despite the return of some key players, it was Burnley who started strongest, making all the early play. Andy Gray in particular was a constant menace and, after forcing Fulop into a good early save, the Burnley striker turned Patrick Kisnorbo to fire Burnley into the lead after 23 minutes.

The goal failed to motivate Leicester, their best effort of the 1st half a deflected effort from Matty Fryatt that was comfortable for the pyjama wearing Kiraly. Cort also managed to force a save with City wasting their chances at set pieces by failing to test the goalkeeper.

After the break, Burrows was forced into fielding returning players Wesolowski and Hume as Leicester tried to chase the game, off came N’Gotty and Kenton, the injured Cort was also replaced by Collins John as Leicester looked to attack in the last half hour.

Despite the changes City failed to create the chances that would lead to an equaliser, McAuley produced a good save from Kiraly after 66 minutes.

With 75 minutes to go Ade Akinbiyi took to the field to a series of jeers from the Leicester fans, whose numbers were being gradually reduced as they streamed out with no indication that the scoreline was in any danger of changing.

And so it finished 0-1, City still unable to score past a Burnley side, with Gray’s 9th goal of the season proving the difference in a game with few chances.

Not that that will worry Burnley fans whose side had failed to win any of the last three leading to Cotterill’s departure.

Davies wins the battle of the caretaker managers, and Leicester have a two week break to try and find someone willing to take this mess forwards for the duration of the season.
Kisnorbo disappointed with result
Burrows confirms what 21,000 fans thought
‘We played poorly and I would be telling lies if I said anything else.

‘We’ve got to take the criticism when we play poorly just as we accept the praise and pats on the back when we play well.

‘The fans are entitled to voice their disapproval because they pay their money. The only way we can answer this and win back the respect of the fans is to target and win our next game against Bristol City.’

Steve Davis stakes his claim for the top job
‘It was an excellent result for the club and I’m sure Steve will be pleased.

‘Andy’s in good scoring form but when he’s not scoring he works so hard. I thought he was excellent.

‘This has to be top of my list for football memories. Burnley is my club and everyone knows what it means to me.’

Kisnorbo disappointed with result
‘It was a bitterly disappointing result and was simply not good enough.

‘We went into the game with a couple of good results on the road under our belt but did not perform today and it is our home form which is letting us down.

‘We have to make this place a fortress and at the moment we are not doing that.

‘Everyone is frustrated and I can understand the fans’ reaction.

‘There is so much potential here but we are just not consistent enough and that is the underlying problem at the moment.

‘I can’t put my finger on how we can play so well against Chelsea and then a couple of weeks later lose on our own patch to managerless Burnley.’
