Previous candidates for the manager’s job at Leicester City, Joe Royle and Mike Newell appear to be lining up moves to other clubs

Reports are confirming that Joe Royle has ended his interest in the Leicester job having previously held talks with chairman Milan Mandaric. He is now thought to be one of the front runners for the vacant Wigan post after Wigan and Jewell have so far failed to agree terms that would see Jewell return to the club he narrowly led to safety in the Premiership last season.

Former Fox Mike Newell meanwhile has been linked with the Burnley job in a number of papers today. Newell, who previously managed Luton Town, is currently out of work and was favoured for the post by many City fans.

So where does that leave us?

The managerial vacancies as first Bolton and now Wigan seem to have dealt Leicester a cruel blow, first losing our manager and then failing to lure another one when the prospect of a Premiership post is on offer.

Mandaric had earlier stated he wanted a new manager in before the disastrous game against Burnley, but he may be that he will have to wait for Wigan to appoint their new man before any of his potential targets will commit to the Foxes.

He has since revised his target and hopes to have his new man in during the international break, he also alluded that he was widening the net and holding discussions with a number of managers currently in work with other clubs. Such candidates could include up and coming managers in the lower leagues such as Paul Ince currently doing well at MK Dons.

One thing is for sure, if Mandaric had wanted Peter Reid then surely it would not have taken this long, we can only presume that the cheerful ex-Sunderland boss is therefore not Milan’s first choice.

Some good news at least?

Thank goodness no Jim Royle. Apparently Jewell agreed to go back to Wigan but rejected the money – does that mean Mandy has offered more?
