New Zealand international Chris Wood has praised the competition in the forward ranks at the club but warned his colleagues that he wants his starting role back so he can get back amongst the goals after spending a bit of time on the sidelines following his recovery from injury.

The 21 year old came off the bench in the game against Bournemouth and he played the assist for Jamie Vardy’s winning goal, but he now wants to get back on the goal track himself.

Speaking to lcfc.com Wood admitted that it was difficult for him to complain much because the team keep winning and Vardy and Nugent have been playing very well, but he feels there would be something wrong if he was happy to sit on the bench and not challenge again.

‘I can’t complain as the team is winning week in, week out. You’re not going to change a winning line up and the front two are doing very well – I’ve just got to make sure when I come on I do the business and force my way in there.’

Wood says that with five players battling for the starting two spots, competition is very high at the club and it is a healthy rivalry between the players as one of your jobs when you are out of the team is to keep those starting on their toes and he feels that is more than happening at the club at the moment.

The striker adds that the players all have the bit between their teeth when it comes to maintaining our winning run, especially at home, and whilst results aren’t always pretty at the moment, they are wins nonetheless and that’s what counts.

As for himself getting over 30 minutes in the game, he said it was good to get out there and figure for a large chunk of the game and although he’d have quite liked to have got on the score sheet himself, he’s pleased to have had a positive impact in the game by setting up Vards for his chance.

It’s obviously Premiership Fulham up next who will provide an interesting test for the Foxes, and Wood admitted he’s hoping that Nigel Pearson shakes things up a little and if he does, he’s hoping he can start in the match and play his part in what we all hope will be a good victory.
