Puel Has Two Doubts Ahead Of Southampton

|

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has been previewing the Premier League clash with Southampton on Thursday evening and as usual, he’s given a fitness update.

Daniel Amartey has returned to training at Belvoir Drive this week but following the injuries sustained by Kasper Schmeichel and Shinji Okazaki, there was still a doubt as to whether they would make the 18 man matchday squad this week.

Okazaki went off at halftime in the game against Burnley with Schmeichel coming off four minutes from time after a collision with Ashley Barnes.

Puel told lcfc.com as he met with the media.

“It was a fall and a knock for Schmeichel. The problem is in his ankle and we will see if he can play in this game. Okazaki, also, we will see if can come back with his ankle too. We will see tomorrow. For the moment, Schmeichel cannot train with us. We need to adapt to the situation, of course, like we have done already.”

Should Schmeichel miss out it’s a choice between Ben Hamer and Eldin Jakupovic as a replacement and although Puel wouldn’t be drawn he said it was a potential opportunity to be taken for whoever he selected.

Although Amartey is back in training the game does come too soon for him, but Wilfred Ndidi is back in contention after completing his suspension.

With Leicester going into the game on the back of a defeat to Burnley and a poor performance, Southampton come into this one having capitulated a 2-0 lead to Chelsea and Puel knew we had to perform better and that was the message from the fans as well.
