Veteran Leicester City left-back Chris Powell has been offered a one year contract extension at the Walkers Stadium, according to local radio.

Powell joined the Foxes last summer on a free transfer after his contract ran out at Charlton, and has since impressed manager Nigel Pearson in his short spell with the club.

It is not yet clear as to what the terms of the contract are, but there is a strong likelihood that Powell could be joining the coaching staff next season as a player/coach.

The player, who turns 40 this year, impressed both manager and fans alike with his assured performances when called upon in League One last season, and will now see out the rest of the his playing career with the Foxes.

One left-back whose future is in doubt at the club however is Joe Mattock, rumoured to be the subject of a £1.5m bid from Ipswich.
