Following the speculation earlier tonight, Leicester City have released a statement confirming that Sven has left the club by mutual consent.

His departure as First Team Manager is effective immediately, and First Team Coach Derek Fazackerley has also left the club.
Academy Director Jon Rudkin and Coach Mike Stowell will jointly assume the role of acting manager of the first team, and they will be assisted by Development coach Steve Beaglehole.
The caretaker team will commence duties for tomorrow’s training session.
The statement adds that there will be no further comment until a new appointment is made.

Pretty gobsmacked by this news myself. Granted it has not been a blazing start to the season and there were always questions about whether someone like Sven could really understand Championship football, but to me this sends out all the wrong messages. What is it that Top et al. want? A top class face who can attract the best talent and promote the club’s image to its Far East fanbase? They already had one, so no point in Ancelotti, Benitez etc. An understated rising star like Nigel Pearson was? Can’t see them being that subtle and intelligent. So what’s left – finding an experienced Championship boss who has gotten a team promoted from this league before? Someone like… er… Ian Holloway…(!)
Another huge pay day for Eriksson. Don’t think he’s ever got football at heart more the money he can make from it. Your better off without him. Surely Martin O’Neill must be high on the list for a return.
Was not expecting this tonight that’s for sure. Yes it’s hardly been a lightning season so far but we have been improving and it was obviously going to take time for the squad to gel. With the rumours of getting the sack a good few weeks back, I’m probably not alone in wondering if the board have been waiting for their chance and of course the Millwall result gave them that.
But where now, O’Neill, A.n Other, total change in tactics, starting fresh with the players who still haven’t gelled – lack of patience could actually now totally undo our season unless the next man in the hotseat can get off to a flyer??
Just shows how average this guy was – he had more money, backing and good favour than any other manager in championship and still got nowhere – just imagine how England would have done with another manager in charge at that time
What good favour Simon? 13 games to gel 12 odd players and now we are back at square one. Impatience could well cost us far more than giving Sven the right amount of time.
