Leicester City striker Yann Kermorgant is ready to finalise his season-long loan switch to French side AC Arles-Avignon over the weekend.

Kermorgant has endured a difficult spell at the Walkers Stadium since his move to the club, most notoriously missing a crucial penalty in the play-off semi-final defeat to Cardiff last season.

Since then the 28-year-old has faced strong reactions from some sections of the Leicester support, and has admitted himself that he was worried about his prospects at the club this season.

With Steve Howard set to be offered the chance to extend his stay with the Foxes, first team opportunities for Kermorgant would have been thin on the ground for the coming term.

A move back home seems appropriate for all parties concerned, with Kermorgant now able to head back home in order to find his first team football.

The Frenchman made 25 appearances in a Foxes shirt last season – most of them off the bench – but found the net just once on the final match of the season against Middlesbrough.

The striker impressed former-managed Nigel Pearson enough in training last year to earn a two-and-a-half year contract last summer, but rarely featured from starting positions.

Often played out wide and brought on with little time to make an impact, Kermorgant has found first team opportunities limited and will welcome the chance of first team football in his home nation next season.

Despite only being an initial loan move, a permanent transfer in the future seems ominous.
