Leicester City have hinted that they may see Rob Kelly as their long term manager – by clearing him to make loan signings before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Coach Ray Graydon told Bill Anderson’s Blue Army website: ‘We are aware of several situations and, if we decide to do something, we know we’ve got the backing of the board.

‘While the need to do something might be receding, we are monitoring the situation.’

Fans seem almost unanimous in their belief that Rob Kelly should be given an extended term as Leicester City manager following his extraordinary performance in lifting them clear of the Championship relegation zone.

But the longer City take to settle the situation, the greater the chance of another club moving in or some off-field activity unsettling him before his present arrangement ends in the summer.

The backing for one or more signings may offer reassurance to the management team.

It is also possible that City will receive offers of outward loans deals for fringe players with Momo Sylla and Joe Hamill the most obvious targets.
