Danny Drinkwater and Riyad Mahrez have both given their thoughts following our opening day four two victory over Sunderland at the weekend.

Beginning with Drinkwater, he told lcfc.com he said basically the result and our performance on the day just backed up the optimism and belief around the camp at the club.

‘The lads are feeling good. It was a great result and a massive three points on the first day of the season, so hopefully it`s onwards and upwards from here. At half-time we were just told to keep it the same. He (Ranieri) made a few points where we could improve still, which is good. Obviously the second half tally wasn`t as high in terms of scoring, but we ended up on top and most importantly we got the three points.’

Drinkwater was quick to praise the performance of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the game as well, for keeping the scores level when Sunderland had early chances.

‘The saves were obviously important for the win. Kasper`s shot-stopping is right up there. He`s a good goalkeeper. It`s important that when we do get our chances we put them away, which we did in the first half. Kasper made two good saves, and on the other side, our shots on target went in.’

Moving on to Mahrez with him hitting a brace on the day, he admitted he felt like he’d hit the season ‘flying’ and he just hoped he could keep it going now having secured a recent four year deal with the club.

‘The fans were very good. They were great and right behind us. I told you when I`m playing in this stadium it`s like I`m flying. I`m very proud and very glad to win this game and to score. We have to carry on and keep going in this way. I feel very, very happy for the team firstly and for me as well because I scored two goals for the team. I worked hard and I`m very happy for my team-mates and the Club. It`s a good start and we have to keep going like this.’
