1 point gained, 2 dropped?

Leicester returned to Championship action this weekend, traveling to Layer Road to play out a 1-1 draw in front of the Sky TV cameras.

With injuries meaning Leicester could only field a makeshift midfield, and without a permanent manager in place, is this an away point gained or two thrown away?

City fielded a team with only two changes from the one that came within 10 minutes of knocking out Chelsea in the League Cup midweek.

In came the cup-tied Collins John and DJ Campbell in place of Shaun Newton and Carl Cort. The ongoing midfield injury crisis meant Darren Kenton kept his place in the heart of midfield.

City started the game brightly and, as in the Chelsea game, found themselves with an early lead. DJ Campbell crossing in from the right and allowing on loan Collins John to claim his second City goal in as many starts.

Fulop was called into action as Colchester looked for a quick reply, N’Gotty was beaten for pace after Platt latched onto a ball over the top but Fulop was equal to it.

John had another chance to add to his tally but stand in keeper Dean Gerken blocked his shot following good work from Matty Fryatt.

Colchester’s Mark Yeates failed to add to his 5 goals from set pieces with a dismal effort as half-time approached, however with less than a minute remaining the former Foxes loanee found Johnnie Jackson at the far post and his effort beat Fulop to ensure the teams left the field with the scores level at halftime.

After the break, John again was denied by Gerken, Yeates still failing to test Fulop from another dangerously positioned free kick.

Cort came on for John just after the hour, and had a chance after just 5 minutes of coming on cleared off the line by a defensive header from Baldwin.

Cort eventually had the ball in the back of the net, following up a Matty Fryatt shot. His effort was ruled out for offside however.

Newton came on for Campbell with 10 minutes to go as both sides pushed for a winner. Sheehan had a chance from a freekick fall wide and Fulop made a good save from Yeates as the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

A good response from Leicester following their cup performance, key persons missing in midfield but Matty Fryatt did well in linking the play from a deep position just behind the attacking line.

Collins John grabbed another with the front line starting to fire and creating good chances.

Plenty of positives, but should we have got all three points?

Burrows keeps up his claim for the full time job
‘I was the only would-be manager that wanted Leicester to win out of all of the other contenders.

‘The timing of their goal just before half-time changed their attitude.

‘We did a lot of good things and we started brightly and created some half chances. But I’m delighted with the effort that the players have put in.’
