Who’s In, Who’s Out Of The Running?

Short and simple recap of the names being bandied around by the press when it comes to the managerial hotseat at Leicester.

Huddersfield boss Lee Clark is the bookies favourite.

Martin O’Neill seems to have ruled himself out.

A fresh name is MK Dons’ Karl Robinson who Sky Sports have suggested is in the running for the job. Probably too left field at this stage, and like Clark, probably needs a few more years learning the trade before stepping into a club with our ambitions.

Reading’s Brian McDermott has also been thrown into the mix by the press, but his comments to the Reading Post would tend to rule him out.

‘I’ve been here 11 years and until someone tells me anything different, this is where I am,’ adding that there had been no contact between the clubs at any rate.

Ladbrokes have former England and Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan at 5/1 for the job, and the Daily Mail suggest the club might go for a Keegan/Clark combination due to the experience issues of Clark – but would a manager like Clark who’s making a name for himself at the moment want to play second fiddle?

Obviously the Director of Football route is open in that arrangement, but again would Clark want somebody above him even in that role, even though they know each other from Clark’s playing days?

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman dismissed speculation almost as quickly at it started by telling the South London Press.

‘I’m very happy at Crystal Palace, I only took over nine months ago and hopefully there is a long way to go in this job. I’m looking forward to it. When speculation comes along with our young players I tell them to focus and that’s exactly what I’ll do – focus on my job here.’

Freedman has made great strides with Palace this season, would he throw that away – very doubtful.

Another in the frame was Neil Lennon, but he has committed to Celtic. Setanta have him quoted as saying.

‘I am not aware of the speculation, I am very flattered but I have a hell of a job here. There is an obvious connection because I played there, but I want to stay here.’

Expect another completely different list of potential managers tomorrow.
