Manager Nigel Pearson said he was delighted to welcome Jamie Vardy back to the team following his injury in the game against Arsenal.

The 27 year has now formally completed a meteoric rise through the levels from non league into the Premier League having now made his top flight debut following a thigh injury.

He came on as a second half substitute for Jeff Schlupp in the one all draw and in many ways he does give renewed hope to grassroots football as only two years ago he was playing for Fleetwood Town in the Conference division.

Having already established his goalscoring credentials at various other leagues, he proved his worth in the Championship and now his task is to prove he can achieve the same at this level.

Speaking to lcfc.com Pearson again admitted that, as expected, it took Vardy time to adjust to life in the Championship – something the player has more than acknowledged himself – but once he did, what an impact he had.

Being able to take confidence from that adjustment, Pearson doesn’t believe he’ll struggle at this level now either once he finds his feet owing to his natural talent and sheer work rate.

‘You could see the impact he can make in terms of what he gave to the team. We replaced pace for pace, Vardy for Schlupp, but there was an excitement and a buzz from the crowd because there is an expectancy of our offensive players to put opposing teams under huge stress and I like that about us.’

Pearson goes on to say he’s ‘certainly’ got the credentials to be a ‘real pest’ for Leicester this season in the top flight and he’s more than confident that he will score goals and create chances for others.

His second half introduction certainly gave rise to confidence for him and having not long returned from injury, he can only get fitter, sharper and better.
