Taylor back to face the flak

Nearly three and a half years after his ignominious departure, former manager Peter Taylor is returning to the cauldron of Leicester City’s ground with a football team.

On Saturday March 4, Taylor brings his Hull City side for a Championship match which could well attract another bumper crowd.

It will be his first competitive visit since his departure as City boss in October 2002.

Since then of all the figures in Leicester’s long history, Taylor’s name is arguably the most reviled.

Indeed many fans still trace the club’s downward spiral into administration, and our continued financial difficulties, back to the high-spending/low achieving Taylor era.

That background guarantees an electric atmosphere on the 4th and there is every possibility that the crowd will be close to or better than the season’s best 25,497 which attended the last home game against Leeds.

City have to play Ipswich at Portman Road first but already Chris Tinbergen, City’s head of football and administration, reckons ticket sales for the Hull fixture have been brisk.

Said one fan who preferred not to be named: ‘The game will have all the atmosphere of a local derby plus some and if Rob Kelly goes back through the tunnel with a win there won’t be a word said against him for ages whatever else he does.’
