Kasper Schmeichel has released a statement expressing his surprise at Leeds for accepting a bid from ourselves.

The statement was carried by Sky Sports amongst others, and said.

‘At the end of the season Leeds United and I both made a commitment to honour the last year of my contract and try to win promotion. Therefore it is with great disappointment that I have learned that Leeds have accepted an offer from Leicester.’

The statement by Schmeichel goes on to say that he wishes to have on record that he never once asked for a transfer from Leeds and notably that he never turned down a contract extension, ‘since one was never put to me.’

Hopefully this should have little effect on our interest in the player, as given he explains he has spoken to Grayson who reiterated it was in the best interests of the club, he’ll realise he’s wanted by Leicester and the comment.

‘I have been put in a very difficult situation and will spend some time considering my options.’

Will be best served by moving to a club that will value and want him.
