Same City different season

Leicester started the new season by losing to Luton Town 2-0 with a below par performance from Rob Kelly`s men.

Leicester didn`t start the game well and were lucky not to go behind when a weak back pass from Stearman was pounced upon by Emanuel with his shot just skimming the outside of the post. Even though Leicester had this early scare they still didn`t up their performance and went behind after 8 minutes from a Barnett header.

Nils Eric Johansson gave Barnett too much space in the box whilst waiting for the Luton corner and Barnett made him pay by heading the ball past Henderson and Maybury who was on the line.

After the goal Leicester seemed to rally and were unlucky not to equalise when a Gareth Williams free kick was palmed onto the crossbar by Beresford.

The game went into the second half and even though Leicester had enough possession they couldn`t put the Luton goal under any pressure. Luton finally put the game out of Leicester`s reach when they doubled their lead.

A long kick from Beresford caused confusion in the Leicester defence and the ball fell kindly for Carlos Edwards who coolly stepped around Stearman before toe poking the ball past Henderson.

Leicester`s failure to mount any kind of pressure during the second half will worry the fans and with the first home against Burnley on Tuesday, Rob Kelly will only have a couple of days to instil some fighting spirit into the team.

Player Ratings

Paul Henderson
Had no chance with both goals and made a good save half way through the second half.

Richard Stearman
Had a nightmare opening 20 minutes and seemed to struggle for the rest of the game. If he has another performance like this he may see himself dropped to the bench.

Darren Kenton
Kenton slotted into the defence well and had a solid performance. He brought the ball out of defence a couple of times and it will be interesting to see if he keeps his place now Kisnorbo is available.

Paddy McCarthy
Unlucky not to score when his header skimmed the top of the bar, he also made some vital tackles and linked up well with Kenton.

Nils Eric Johansson
He was to blame for the opening goal after letting his man get away from him at the corner. Second half he stopped it happening again by grabbing as much of Barnett`s shirt as possible.

Danny Tiatto
As ever Danny puts in one of his typical performances, he makes a couple of runs across the middle of the pitch before losing the ball and also he picked up his mandatory yellow card. The lack of a left midfielder in the squad can be the only reason to keep him in the team.

Gareth Williams
Showed some good passes and was unlucky not to score when the goalkeeper palmed his shot onto the crossbar.

Andy Johnson
Showed a cool head and did well in the centre of midfield. Seemed to slow towards the end of the game which puts a question mark over how many games he will finish this season.

Alan Maybury
Managed to get forward a couple of times but wasn`t really a threat down the right.

Matty Fryatt
Had a few chances in the first half but seemed to be a little bit off the pace. In the
second half he disappeared, although this could have been due to the lack of service from the midfield.

Ian Hume
Taken off 10 minutes into the second half, he didn`t seem to get into the game and struggled to link up with Fryatt.
