Preston North End are set to sign Leicester centre back Wayne Brown, as Darren Ferguson looks to shore up his defence for next season.

Brown will have a medical at Deepdale today before finalising a move to City’s Championship rivals.

The 32-year-old has already played for Preston in recent years, making six appearances for the club in 2008 whilst on loan from Hull City.

Despite a successful two years at the Walkers Stadium where Brown was more-or-less a regular fixture in the starting lineup, the move seems inevitable.

The centre back was involved in a tirade of controversy at the tail end of last season when he revealed his political stance as British National Party to shocked team-mates.

Naturally the revelation incensed certain members of the squad including respected coach Chris Powell, and as a result Brown was dropped from City’s play-off squad for both legs against Cardiff City.

With Jack Hobbs, Michael Morrison and Aleksander Tunchev all vying for spots at the heart of defence, the Foxes have sufficient cover to account for the release of Brown.
