Millwall’s winning way at cards

Millwall appear to wear their reputation as the Championship’s most combative and contentious club like a badge of honour.

They may still face a battle climbing out of the relegation places but are top of the indisciplinary league by the proverbial mile.

Millwall have amassed six more red cards than any other club in the Championship and, indeed, with 13 dismissals, have had more sendings off than they’ve scored home goals(11).

On the basis of three points for a red card and one for a yellow, Andys stats have Millwall, with their 82 yellow cards, on 121 points, a massive 26 points ahead of second placed Coventry who are the only club with more yellow cards than the Lions (83).

Leicester are fifth on 87 points with 72 yellow cards and five reds.

With two Millwall players declaredly fancying a home win over Leicester on Saturday and City equally determined to avoid being dragged once more towards the relegation trapdoor, there is every likelihood that the game will be as keenly contested as you would expect between two sides who have Dennis Wise as a common denominator.

And, at first glance and with so much at stake, it might be anticipated that goalscoring chances will be at a minimum.

But while Millwall have netted only 11 times in 19 home League matches so far, Leicester have only kept one clean sheet in their last 21 so one statistic has to improve.

Once more Paddy McCarthy could be key, providing he stays calm.
