Megson to Bolton, City fans rejoice

Publicly Milan Mandaric has expressed his disappointment with Gary Megson’s decision to join Bolton Wanderers after less than 10 games in charge

Leicester City fans have also publicly stating their feelings over Megson’s departure for Bolton, and a poll ran on Vital Leicester has shown overwhelming unity from the Leicester fans.

Over three quarters registered their delight at Megson’s decision to take his dull defensive football to The Reebok.

Mandaric had fought hard with Bolton after they began they approach for the ex-Forest and now ex-Leicester boss, but was eventually consigned to defeat, not least due to the fact that Megson had no contract tying him to the club.

It may be that Milan has spent the last few days trying to secure adequate compensation from Bolton and frantically ringing the names on his previous two shortlists for the Leicester manager.

His disappointment may stem from the fact that the compensation the club receive from Bolton falls short of his valuation of £300,000. It may be that having had to search for a manager already this season, he knows only too well what is on offer and who he could bring to the club.

He may also not be too keen on delving through the rubbish at The Walkers Stadium, desperately trying to find his list of possible candidates from the last two managerial searches.

One name that will certainly not be appearing on the new shortlist is Palace boss Neil Warnock, Mandaric had previously shown an interest in the ex-Blades boss before appointing both Allen and Megson but Warnock has now filled the post vacated by Peter Taylor.

The question is what has changed? Such a short period of time has elapsed since the last managerial search that ended in Megson being plucked out of the unknown that it may be Mandaric who is right to be disappointed rather than elated over Megson’s departure.

Coventry haved failed to secure the funds that were promised to Iain Dowie, so short of they of cash that Casper Schmeical’s proposed loan move from Man City was blocked until the club pay other footballing debts to Southampton.

Paul Ince had impressed at Macclesfield and now at MK Dons. Although Mandaric may have a strange feeling of Deja vu in going for the Guv’nor.

Chris Coleman is in Spain at the moment, but the signing of Collins John may signal that the groundwork is being done for the Welshman’s return to English football.

Those with an ex-Leicester connection are always wheeled out in such discussions, Simon Grayson, Mike Newell and even Brian Little could all be targets, the last two would require no compensation to be paid as they are both out of work.

Time will tell who will become the next City boss, but both fans and the chairman alike will be hoping the new manager will bring a more attacking and successful style of play to The Walkers, where’s Kevin Keegan these days?
