Leicester City have completed the signing of 26 year old Gareth McAuley from Lincoln City. The Northern Ireland international has signed a three year contract with the foxes, who managed to beat other Championship clubs to the signing. Leicester had been linked with the central defender since Lincoln lost in the Play off game 2nd leg against Grimsby.

McAuley signed for Lincoln two years ago from Coleraine and made 37 appearances (2 as a substitute) for the Imps last season. He managed to score 5 goals and only picked up 4 yellow cards, which as both Patrick McCarthy and Kisnorbo will testify, is a good record for a centre back.

The main question Leicester fans will be asking themselves is, with the signing of McAuley is Rob Kelly trying to add depth to his Leicester squad? Or has Kelly merely found a replacement for Patrick Kisnorbo? Who it has been rumoured is attracting interest from Premiership clubs.

Slowly moving himself up the leagues. It will be interesting to see if he’s good enough to deal with some of the talent thats coming down from the 1st division.
