Leicester City left back Joe Mattock has stunned the club by handing in a transfer request, declaring that he wants a move ‘as soon as possible’.

The 19-year-old is understood to be the subject of a bid from Championship rivals West Brom, with manager Roberto Di Matteo understood to be interested in the left-back according to Sky Sports.

Mattock has so far made an impressive 70 appearances for City to date, after breaking into the first team at 17 from the club’s youth academy.

Manager Nigel Pearson is said to have ‘strong feelings’ on the matter, indicating that he is far from happy at Mattock’s decision to leave the club.

“It’s a situation that has been driven by him. In terms of confirming where he goes and for how much, I can’t do that, but I’d expect it to be resolved shortly.

I like to deal with people straight up. I don’t like it when the player rings the chairman when we are playing a pre-season game to ask to leave when he is out of the country on international duty”.

With a move to the Baggies almost inveitable now, chairman Milan Mandaric will certainly hold out for a significant fee for the player. Mattock was the subject of Premier League interest two seasons ago, but bids were rejected at the time.
