Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric says he will back manager Nigel Pearson in the January transfer window.

Mandaric: “If he needs anything, he will get it.

But I believe we still have some players who at times may not even be on the bench but who will get the chance to prove themselves and come into the reckoning. So maybe there might not be too many coming in – or going out either because we need to keep a strong squad’.

Mandaric however, admitted that he wasn’t expecting Pearson to knock on his door too often in the next month, the manager naturally reluctant to make any major changes with the team currently performing so well.

Leicester are currently looking to tie down deals for three players currently at the club; veterans Chris Powell and Marc Edworthy, and the on loan Mark Davies. Powell and Edworthy’s short-term deals end at the weekend, but the club are looking to resolve the situation soon.

The Foxes are also keen to extend the loan deal of Davies from Wolves after impressing hugely in his time so far with the team. Manager Nigel Pearson said: “I am delighted with how he has done. I know he is a good player and I am delighted with his contribution.

I would want to keep him. We are also looking at the situation of the other two and, hopefully, it will all be resolved very shortly.”

Two players who could be on the move however are Barry Hayles and James Wesolowski, both wanted by Cheltenham Town. Town boss Martin Allen wants the duo from Leicester, but has admitted that a deal for Hayles could end in failure unless an agreement is made with the Foxes to terminate the forward’s contract.

On Wesolowski, Allen said: ‘James isn’t back in training yet, but we are hoping to do a permanent deal before the end of the month.’

Leicester play Crystal Palace in the FA Cup at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow.
