Mandaric: We don’t need to sell top stars

Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric has reassured fans that the club’s top players will not be sold off this summer.

Stars such as Jack Hobbs, Andy King and Matty Fryatt will be playing ina blue shirt next season according to Mandaric, who has also confirmed he will back his new manager in the transfer market.

‘He will get whatever he needs, but keep in mind we have the squad here and we are not going to bring in massive numbers.

‘Our squad was quite successful last season and they did well, so any players coming in will be players we need for certain positions.

‘I will not be selling any of our best players. I am not under any pressure to do so.

‘If I sell them then that means I have been telling you the wrong things.

‘We are ambitious and we want to add to our best players.

‘Everyone who contributed last season will get a chance with the new manager.

‘We will be competitive and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be successful this season. If you ask me are we going to be successful next season, I sincerely hope, but you don’t know.

‘Every manager and chairman wants to do better this year than last year. At the same time, you have to be careful.

‘You can’t bring in 14 players and expect them to instantly settle.

‘Right now we have a settled team. We just need to add in certain players and the new manager will get the support.’

Paulo Sousa is expected to be officially installed as the club’s new manager today after leaving Swansea over the weekend by mutual consent.

Whilst the core of City’s squad will remain from last season there is still work to be done in the transfer market, not least finding a replacement for Martyn Waghorn up front.

Sousa is unlikely to have a substantial transfer kitty to wotk with, but the sales of some of the team’s fringe players may free up required funds to land his targets.

DJ Campbell is expected to be sold at some point over the summer, with both Ipswich and Preston reportedly interested in the striker.
