Leicester City chairman Milan Madaric is hopeful of securing the services of former Dutch international Edgar Davids before the weekend.

The Foxes officially announced their sensational interest in Davids yesterday, with Mandaric and Pearson admitting that there has been interest in both directions for the former European Cup winner.

Mandaric told the BBC: ‘We have been in conversation for two or three weeks with him and his agent. We should know in the next couple of days if we can bring him to our squad’.

Rumoured interest from Portsmouth has since been quashed by manager Paul Hart, who ruled out a move for Davids yesterday. Hart said: ‘Edgar Davids? No, it’s not true’.

Despite the Premier League club’s exit from the race, it still remains unclear as to how many other clubs are in contention for Davids’s signature, with Hull and QPR both also linked today.

The signing would no doubt send out a clear declaration of City’s intentions in the Championship this season, following a promising start which has seen them touch within three points of leaders West Brom.
