Winger Riyad Mahrez has been rewarded for his performance in the opening day four two victory over Sunderland with a spot in Aunty Beeb’s Team of the Week.

With a flying performance from the Algerian, resulting in a brace of goals for him in the space of ten minutes, pundit Garth Crooks named him in the first Team selection for the new 2015-16 campaign.

Full team:

Adrian (West Ham), Winston Reid (West Ham), Chris Smalling (Man Utd), Micah Richards (Aston Villa), Ross Barkley (Everton), Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City), Bafetimbi Gomis (Swansea City), Jefferson Montero (Swansea City).

In his run down for the selection, Crooks explained.

‘The Algerian was absolutely sensational, scoring twice. He should really have graced his performance against a totally outclassed Sunderland with a hat-trick. Poor old Dick Advocaat should have listened to his wife who begged him to give it all up and retire at the end of last season. Had the Sunderland boss listened to her, she would have saved him from this mauling and, on this evidence, another season grovelling at the foot of the table fighting relegation.’
