Millwall manager Steve Lomas has admitted he would love to turn Martyn Waghorn’s loan deal into a permanent move in the summer.

The manager said that Waghorn has been a ‘breath of fresh air’ since joining the club on a 93 day loan and the 23 year old scored on his debut and added his second for the club last weekend.

Speaking to the South London Press, Lomas explained that he was going to do all he could to convince the player that his long term furture lay at the London club as he’s sure he can really kick his career on after somewhat stalling at Leicester.

‘Waggy has realised what the fans are all about here and if he gives it everything, they’ll love him. If he gives it everything and he scores goals, they’ll love him even more. He has done well, and there is more to come from him.’

Waghorn is out of contract next summer, so can begin preliminary talks with clubs in January over a pre contract deal.

In his time at Leicester, firstly on loan and then after having joined us on a permanent deal, he’s made 54 starts, with a further 62 appearances from the bench in all competitions. During that time he has scored 20 goals.
