Let’s show Ipswich what we stand for

Okay we’ve not won a single one of our last 10 League games against Ipswich at Portman Road. So what? As Leicester City manager Rob Kelly says: ‘we can’t affect what’s happened previously.’

Lets think what we can do…

First of all we can demonstrate once more what Colin Gibson said on Radio Leicester that no-one gets an easy game against Leicester any more.

We can think about what happened at QPR where we hadn’t won for 20 years and say if we can win there why would we not be able to win in Suffolk?

We can remember that we’d only won one away game all season up until Christmas but could now win three away games on the trot, and why not?

We can remember the 1997 League Cup quarter-final at Ipswich which we won 1-0 and say, can we not match that if we treat Saturday’s Championship League match with the same importance?

We can remember that, since Kelly took over no-one has beaten us in the League, home or away and that mid-table Ipswich should present no greater or lesser threat to that record than anyone else.

Six games unbeaten would be another mini-milestone, why not pass it?.

And the players could remember that they’ll be playing their last match in February and former boss Craig Levein was no-where near manager of the month this season so it would be nice to change that.

Big target, little target, there is loads to play for, lots to be positive about and lots of reasons why passing any of those goals will help breed the right habits for the future.

Doubtless Rob Kelly will not give a damn about being manager of the month (at least not outwardly) but in the end football management is really about winning things so why not start with that? At least try to get in contention.

It would go nicely with Richard Stearman’s selection for England Under 19’s, with Ashley Chambers’ goal and Joe Mattock’s selection for England Under 16 in Belgium last night and so many other good things that are happening within our club right now.

Every little helps.
