Leicester City Under 18’s seven match winning streak finally ended with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich in a match which had two sendings off.

The game marked the return of left-back Alan Sheehan after a lengthy absence with a groin injury.

Sheehan completed 38 minutes as a second half replacement for Joe Mattock in a game where Louis Dodds continued his run of scoring form and Leicester conceded the equaliser with only nine men on the field.

Although the first half was goalless Leicester could easily have taken the lead when Levi Porter threaded a perfect pass through to Dodds who evaded the keeper but then missed the target from a tight angle.

Ashley Chambers was next to threaten, bringing an excellent block from Ipswich keeper Oscar Petursson but the keeper was walking back to the dressing room soon afterwards when his only way of preventing a Chambers goal was to handle outside the box for the inevitable red card.

City took the lead on 46 minutes when Dodds netted with a volley which the replacement Ipswich keeper got his hand to but couldn’t keep out of the net.

A Leicester penalty looked certain when Billy McKay was brought down in the box but the referee disagreed and soon City were feeling further aggrieved when centre-back Liam Norval was sent off for dissent leaving both teams with 10 men.

Ipswich finally equalised when, with city right winger Max Gradel temporarily off the field injured, Tony Boto shot home on 73 minutes.

It now looks certain City will finish runners-up in the Premier Academy League table.
