Speaking to Thordur Sigfusson of the Icelandic newspaper Frettabladid, Gudjonsson, who is out of contract in the summer admitted: “It is possible I could move in the January window” and I “could could see myself playing in Holland again.”

Because of his contract situation Gudjonsson has been allowed to speak with interested clubs and confirmed: “there have been enquiries from a few clubs but nothing has materialised yet”.

“I want to play in a top League and don’t care whether it is in England or Holland.” AZ Alkmaar have been mentioned.

On the face of it, losing Gudjonsson (25) would be a major blow. Gudjonsson is runaway leader of a Mr Consistency poll on the Official Leicester City website and is City’s second top scorer.

He is also the club’s penalty specialist.

Many wondered if he could retain his place in the side this season but he responded with a series of outstanding displays both defensively and as an attacking midfielder.

His possible departure, however, could be tempered by the return to action of Australian James Wesolowski and the improving match fitness of Steven Hughes.

But will his goals be missed?
