Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has rubbished reports linking his side with a move for Manchester United striker Michael Owen.

Reports over the weekend suggested that the Foxes may make an audacious bid for the former England striker in the summer, but Eriksson was quick to play down the rumours.

“First of all, it is not true about Owen,” he said.

“Secondly, I wouldn’t think Michael Owen would come to Leicester unless we are in the Premier League.”

But Eriksson did not shy away from admitting Owen would be more than welcome at the Walkers.

“I think it is very easy. If we are in the Premier League and Michael Owen wants to come to us, then fine.”

Owen has found the net five times in all competitions for the Red Devils this season, but has endured another difficult time on the sidelines.

But any City fans hoping for a summer move for the striker appear to have been dashed unless the Foxes make an unlikely climb to the Premier League this season.
