Foxes in talks with two

Leicester City Head of Recruitment Steve Walsh has confirmed that the club are in talks with two players over possible moves to the club this summer.

The players, both free agents, are currently unknown as Walsh does not want to potentially scupper any deal for City.

Walsh confirmed that the Foxes were actively in the hunt for new talent this summer, but conceded that departures will be inevitable.

‘I am negotiating at the moment with one or two and I would like to think that they can come in and strengthen the squad,’ he said.

‘You have to think of it like a jigsaw puzzle, as some players come in others will go.

‘We are looking and do have the net out. But it is really important that what we have got working on we keep quiet because, if you don’t, you can miss what you are trying achieve.

Leicester have been linked with an audacious move for former-Arsenal man Robert Pires in the last week, a deal which looks increasingly unlikely after the star distanced himself with a return to England.

The Foxes have already signed up Rochdale left back Tom Kennedy on a free transfer, a deal which Walsh was delighted to conclude.

‘I have been tracking Tom for quite some time and saw him play for Rochdale on quite a few occasions last season,’ he said.

‘He is only 24 and has great potential. He uses the ball very well and has great delivery. He has a sweet left peg and he has come in to put pressure on the other players and try to get into the first team.

‘So far he is untried at Championship level so he will have to step up to the plate, but I feel he has the potential to do so.’

Nigel Pearson will not be going into this summer’s transfer window with a large budget, and instead must go in search of cheap alternatives and free transfers.

The hopeful sale of DJ Campbell may free up funds later in the summer, but talks with Blackpool have already broken down after the Premier League new boys baulked at City’s asking price.
