1 – How disappointed are Palace fans to see Neil Danns move on?
Danns was obviously a massive player for us, one of the first names on the teamsheet and effectively a guaranteed starter.
But he gave us good service and stuck with us through some dicey times so few fans I think will begrudge him the move, although the disappointment would’ve been less had we been able to take a fee for him.
2 – What type of midfielder can we expect and are you going to miss his presence on the pitch?
He’s a good battler and should lead your midfield well, he’s also got quite a nice eye for goal although you always feel he should score more than he does, although to be fair he picks up fewer cards than you think he sometimes should aswell – so it depends which you prefer.
We’ll definitely miss him though, we have no like for like replacement at the club in my mind and we are yet to sign somebody that could do the same job.
The likes of Garvan can offer us something different I feel, but you have to hope Freedman is looking for somebody who can battle aswell if we are going to go with a more offensive midfield as without Danns I do think we look a little weak in the middle of the park.
3 – Are you surprised to see him move to the Midlands given the likes of Rangers were interested? Does that tell us anything about his ambitions or is he a Premiership at all costs player?
He’s not Premiership at all costs, I’m pretty sure if he felt that way he could’ve left Selhurst earlier than he did and looked for a move to one of the newly promoted clubs over the past few years.
He does however consider the Premier League to be unfinished business as I suspect he feels he never had a proper shot previously. I guess seeing you as promotion favourites and then having the money to spend to stay in the Prem if you get there, gives him the shot he wants and that’s obviously more important to him than Rangers and European football.
I’d be surprised if the money didn’t help aswell, but I can hardly blame him for that given he stuck with us for his contract.
4 – Will Palace fans feel let down by him moving, or do you wish him the best for the future?
Probably answered above, but it’s difficult to feel let down given he saw his contract out. As said a fee, even a nominal one, would’ve made it easier to swallow as that would’ve helped us to replace him, but he stuck with us through relegation battles and gave his all, so whilst I can’t speak for everyone, for me, I wish him the best and he’s welcome back anytime.
When a player stays as loyal as you can expect from players thesedays, I don’t think then you can begrudge them the chance at a bigger bank balance and the opportunity to play at the highest level and pick up some silverware along way. And as we all know, Leicester are favourites this season so at this moment in time he has stepped up – I’m not sure I’d have felt the same way if he’d moved to another club like us who are finding our feet again and rebuilding.
