What happened to the Adams family?

The game between Coventry and Leicester on Friday will see two midland rivals fight it out, guaranteeing a good atmosphere from both sets of fans. The game will also have an added edge due to the history between Leicester and the manager of Coventry, a Mr Micky Adams

Micky Adams was the manager of Leicester between 2002 and 2004. In that time he managed to get Leicester promoted to the Premiership and then watched his team get relegated back to the Championship the following season.

The main problem Leicester seemed to have under Adams was that they could never hold onto a lead. An example of this was the 2003-04 season when Leicester were relegated from the premiership. In total Leicester managed to lose 28 points from games in which they had taken the lead.

When you consider that Leicester were only relegated by 6 points it shows how vital those lost points were. Leicester seemed to be the experts at throwing away a winning position and conceding a late goal. This seemed to affect the fans the following season.

After only 12 games of the following season, with Leicester having won 4, drawn 4 and lost 4, the fans had seen enough of Adams and made it clear that his time was coming to an end.

The main gripe the fans seemed to have with Adams was his “dad`s army” approach, with too many players the wrong side of thirty. Also the style of football Leicester were playing was less then appealing, leading to the majority of fans becoming disheartened.

Adams finally walked away from Leicester after they lost 3-2 in the League Cup, after being 2-1 up with ten minutes left. Many Leicester fans were happy to see the back of Adams and looked forward to a new approach from a manager who could hopefully lower the age of the squad and move Leicester back towards the premiership.

Two years later and although Leicester have managed to lower the age of the squad they are still no nearer reaching the premiership.

Adams departure from Leicester was a sign that if that the fans turn against the manager then there is little he can do to win them back. The fans had seen enough of the Adams approach and the general feeling was that a change was needed.

Since Adams departure, Leicester have played twice against Adams` Coventry and are still to lose to their ex-manager. The fans will be hoping to continue this run against Coventry tomorrow and are sure to give Adams some stick along the way.
