Three Deserved Points From Aston Villa

Manager Nigel Pearson has said Leicester got exactly what they deserved from our game against Aston Villa.

A good solid performance, plenty of chances, and really we should’ve won the game by greater margin that one nil, but it’s three points all the same and that left the gaffer a happy man at the full time whistle.

Speaking to lcfc.com following the game, the manager explained.

‘In the last four games the only goals that we’ve conceded have been from penalties. We’ve defended pretty well as a team for the vast majority of the season and it’s good for us to get that home win again. I think we deserved it and it’s always difficult when you make changes, to keep the game as fluid. The players that came in did what they were good at.’

Pearson goes on to say that whilst being delighted with a third clean sheet in four games, he felt the performance was a bit of a ‘mixed bag’ really, as at times we could’ve used the ball better in his mind, and we did have sloppy moments, but ‘overall’ he definitely feels we made the better chances in the game and were largely solid at the back and limited them nicely.

‘Throughout the entirety of the game I thought we created the better chances. Defensively I thought we were pretty solid and the three points were deserved. If your performance is good and you win, then great, and if you play badly and win, great, it’s about winning games. We’ve spoken too often this season about being unlucky and our performances being good, and we’ve got to be a little bit more result orientated.’

Pearson finishes by saying that in many ways ‘circumstances’ dictate how you perceive matches at times, but he can’t be anything but pleased with the uplift in results we’ve seen over the festive period so long may that continue.

People always talk about newly promoted teams having to find their feet, as it’s not often a team come into the Premier League and hit the ground running and maintain it, so we’re coming good at the right part of the season, lessons clearly have been learned so now hopefully it’s about continuing that, getting points on the board, and come May just not being in the bottom three.

Anything higher will always be a bonus.
