Roma End Mahrez Interest

It appears Roma’s interest in Riyad Mahrez is now over after the failed attempts they made to get him for less than Leicester City’s valuation.

With Mahrez going public over being interested in speaking to the Serie A side, they had returned with an improved bid said to be in the region of £32million but that still fell way short of the valuation we have placed on him if a move is to happen this summer.

Roma had two bids rejected and sporting director Monchi has said that following the last rejection, they will move onto other targets as they felt their offers had been more than fair.

The Leicester Mercury quote Monchi from a press conference he held earlier today and he explained.

‘I`m optimistic by nature, but the truth is that Roma did everything possible to buy the player. He would have been the most expensive player in Roma`s history, but up until now we haven`t received any positive feedback from the other side.’

He went on to say that he felt the club had done ‘everything necessary’ to secure Mahrez’s signature but unless Leicester’s position changed, that was the end of their interest.

‘The offer we made was an important one, but the priority isn`t just Mahrez because we`ve done everything necessary and now we`re looking around for other players. Could we raise our offer for Mahrez? I’m satisfied with the effort the club has made to sign the player. I don’t think any other club has bid over ?30m, as Roma did.’

Adding.

‘The player expressed what he wants publicly, but it’s right that we respect his club. In the end everything will be resolved in the will or desire of whether or not Leicester want to sell the player.’
