Ranieri – Our Goals Will Return

Manager Claudio Ranieri has said that he’s supremely confident that goals will return for Leicester, because the side are continuing to fashion good chances in games.

With Leicester now having gone three games without a goal after scoring in 18 matches in a row – and with Riyad Mahrez missing a penalty at the weekend in the scoreless draw with Bournemouth, along with Jamie Vardy striking the woodwork – Ranieri was obviously tasked with the scoring situation in his after game press conference, and the Italian believed it was only a matter of time before things clicked again.

Speaking to lcfc.com explained.

‘You know the problem is when you don`t create. But against Liverpool we created chances, against Manchester City we created chances and today we created chances. Now there are three matches in a row where we didn`t score, but soon that will arrive. We were unlucky when Jamie Vardy hit the post and Mahrez for the penalty when the ‘keeper made a fantastic save, but what can I say? We started the second half with the ambition to win the match, tried to do our best, but when you play at high intensity you can make mistakes and today we made a lot of mistakes with the last pass. But it`s okay, we have 40 points and a clean sheet, which is important.’

Mahrez’s penalty was of course his first miss in five attempts this season as well, and on top of previous quotes carried, Ranieri repeated that he would leave it up to Mahrez and Vardy to decide in future given how both how struck from 12 yards previously when called upon.

Mahrez is four from five and Vardy three from three.

‘If he (Mahrez) is calm, for me it`s ok, but he and Jamie speak every time on who wants to take them. Only those that shoot penalties and score the goals can make that decision. For me, it`s him and Jamie and they decide.’
