In the interview Aiyawatt says that the results and the performances hadn’t been good enough and the board were worried about missing out on promotion given our start, so they felt that in the best interests of the club the mutual departure had to happen.

Aiyawatt also says that it was a hugely difficult and sad decision to make, as was the ‘long’ conversation with Sven about the season and how things had gone, because he is a good man and was well loved at the club.

Curiously he also adds on the subject of the new manager that he will wait for all the applications to come in first, because he doesn’t have anybody in mind currently. No decision has been taken and their isn’t a favourite, but the club simply want somebody who will take the club into the Premiership.

He also confirms that there has been no contact with any manager yet, including Martin O’Neill despite press speculation.
