Ahead of the game against Southampton this weekend, manager Nigel Pearson was named Manager of the Month for April.

Our gaffer won out against competition from Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger and Everton’s Roberto Martinez to lift the award for April after we put together four consecutive wins on the spin in the Premier League to give us real hope of avoiding the drop in 2014-15.

Victories against West Ham, West Brom, Swansea and Burnley gave us breathing room at the bottom of the table and following the Southampton victory we now sit three points clear of the relegation places owing to our late season efforts.

Speaking to lcfc.com about the award, Pearson explained.

‘It`s a collective effort and as always I’m very proud to be the manager of Leicester City. When these sorts of days come around it’s nice to pick up the award but it’s recognition of a collective effort. We had an outstanding month and we needed to. I`m delighted to accept the award on behalf of everyone at the Football Club.’

Only two managers previously have won the of the Month award – Martin O`Neill (three) and most recently Peter Taylor in September 2000.

Jamie Vardy and Kasper Schmeichel were also named in the shortlist for the Player of the Month gong, but they lost out to Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke.
