Pearson – That’ll Do Me

Manager Nigel Pearson was in a jovial mood after our roller coaster 90 minutes in the Capital One Cup fourth round against Fulham earlier this evening.

Leicester went one nil down to an early Fulham goal, but we’d fought back to enter the half time break with a two one advantage. The second half wasn’t much better for the nerves as despite giving ourselves a two goal advantage after the break, it took Fulham only a minute to reduce the game to a one goal margin and they grabbed the leveller with only a few minutes left in the match. Thankfully for us, Lloyd Dyer popped up with the winner a minute before full time to secure our progression into the next round of the League Cup.

Speaking to lcfc.com following the match, Nigel Pearson declared himself pleased and said that the result would ‘do me nicely’ as Leicester put themselves into the Quarter Finals to extend what has been a successful season for us so far.

‘I don’t like conceding three goals, but I really enjoy scoring four. The most important thing tonight was going through to the next round, we thought we had a chance, and that proved to be the case.’

Pearson said the result was even more delightful as although he was sure he wouldn’t weaken the team by making a few changes and giving some players a run out, he could understand fans maybe being a little reticent given the run we were on in the league gain.

‘Bottom line was the fact that we made changes and it was important for our players to go out and enjoy the game for what it was. We’ve negotiated three rounds prior, which people may have expected us to win, tonight maybe for the first time, we’ve been the underdogs, but we were still able to go through.’

Pearson admits that he expects both he and Martin Jol can tear apart the performance of their own team at points during the game, but both sides were out there to win it and played to take the victory, so it was a tough encounter, but probably pleasing for the fans.

Adding that on a personal level he’d rather win games one nil, but he’ll certainly take tonight’s result.
