Ahead of our game this weekend against Stoke City, manager Nigel Pearson has pointed to them as proof of how a club can adjust quickly to life in the Premier League and establish themselves in the top flight.

Speaking to lcfc.com the gaffer explained.

‘It really is quite a difficult league to be successful in. The sides you play offer you different sorts of challenges, and Saturday presents a very tough obstacle at Stoke. We will go there with a positive intent, but we’re mindful of the fact they have been successful on their own patch for a number of years.’

Pearson goes on to say that since their own promotion they have proven to be very competitive in the early stages of seasons, giving themselves a foundation year on year to grow from, and he saw the potential when he was back in the club so for him it was no surprise to see them continue to grow and go on to achieve that.

Of course, it’s not all about Stoke and their threats and how difficult they are to face at the Britannia Stadium, because we have shown ourselves so far this campaign that we are more than capable of competing with some of the toughest the league has to offer, and whilst we are still waiting for our first three points, two points against Arsenal and Everton – coming from behind in both games – sees us go into this challenge in good spirits and confidence.

‘The performances have been good, we’d like more points but the players have shown they are capable. It’s important we continue to play positively, we’ve tried to win the games we’ve played so far and we will endeavour to do the same at the weekend. If we continue to show the same desire I’m a big believing we will do well this season.’

He ends by saying that coming from the Championship to the Premiership there is an obvious adjustment that needs to be made to account for that step up, and that does take time, but what we need to adjust to now is finding a way to win games, and he’s confident we will do just that over the coming fixtures.
