Manager Nigel Pearson has again praised the mental strength and the quality of the Leicester lads as we caused the upset of the season so far and had the audacity to throw the rulebook out the window and not only come back from behind against United, but then go on to take the game five three in our favour.

With United on a high after their demolition of Queens Park Rangers they certainly came into the game with that confidence, but it seemed to evaporate in the second period.

Speaking to lcfc.com a happier than usual Pearson beamed.

‘In all honesty I thought it would be a tighter affair in terms of the number of goals scored but to win a game when you’ve been 2-0 behind and 3-1 behind is a testament to the ability that we have and also the desire to believe in the spirit that we have as well. It’s been a really satisfying day – one from which the players can take a lot of pride in their performance.’

Pearson went on to say that he had tinkered a touch and made some changes because he felt we needed to in order to give ourselves the best chance possible of getting a reasonable result and try to win the game, so to see the effort the players put in and for them to respond almost immediately through Leo to give ourselves some hope again delighted him.

‘We weren’t too pleased with the build up to their first two goals in particular but I did think we scored a really good goal after that and to keep putting them under pressure when it would be easy to fold is a testament to the spirit that we have.’

The gaffer was also obviously delighted to pick up our second win of the campaign and he went on to say that what people shouldn’t do is write off the quality we have in the camp as well because he knows that whilst grit, determination and attitude are key players for us, we also have extremely talented individuals and he feels over the games so far at this level we have shown we have the quality to compete at this level, and importantly we also have that desire, so of course the challenge for us is now proving that consistently over the course of the season itself.
