Morrison completes Owls switch

Michael Morrison has completed his transfer to League One side Sheffield Wednesday.

Morrison had fallen behind Jack Hobbs, Miguel Vitor and Curtis Davies in the Foxes pecking order this season, and was growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities.

Morrison had started City’s previous three Championship fixtures, but has finalised his switch to Hillsborough in his search for regular football.

Leicester assistant manager Derek Fazackerley admitted the club had tried to keep hold of the 22-year-old, but conceded that a first team spot could not be guaranteed.

“We tried to persuade him there was still a future for him here,” Fazackerley said.

“But he was a bit concerned how much football he would play over the next six months with the players coming in.”

Morrison joined the Foxes from Cambridge United in 2008 ahead of their eventually-victorious League One campaign, and proved an integral part of Nigel Pearson’s winning side.

The centre-back once again proved a substantial part of Pearson’s successful Championship side last year, but opportunities this campaign have been limited with the arrival of several Premier League loanees.

Morrison had been expected to line up against Manchester City on Sunday, but his departure now means City chief Sven-Goran Eriksson will have to throw new signing Sol Bamba straight into the first team.
