Leicester vs Tranmere

Leicester will be looking to build on their good start to the season by getting 3 points from Tranmere at the Walkers Stadium. Many fans will associate Tranmere with Matt Elliott and his brace in the 2000 Worthington Cup final and this will be the first time the two clubs will meet since that final.

Vital Quotes:

Stand-in captain Matt Oakley will be looking to score goals from midfield this season and after speaking with the Leicester Mercury said: “I scored in pre-season. I should have scored on Saturday and finished the game off. It was not to be but hopefully the goals will come.”

Meanwhile, Oakley’s central midfield partner Andy King signed a new 3-year contract in midweek and is also willing to play his part: “Maybe I will be seen by others coming through as an example but, as long as I keep playing well and it goes well for the club, that’s what’s important.”

Leicester City Team News:

City have only one small injury problem with Aleksandar Tunchev who limped out of Bulgaria’s match with Bosnia after only 30 minutes. It is still unclear though whether he will play or not. The only other absentees are long-term absentees Stephen Clemence, Patrick Kisnorbo and Joe Mattock. Conrad Logan also joined Luton on loan and will not be involved.

Player to watch: MICHAEL MORRISON

In the recent week or two the attackers of the City side have been stealing all of the glory but this week’s man to watch is centre-half Michael Morrison. His defensive displays have led to the Foxes to 3 consecutive clean sheets as well as his threat from set-pieces he will be a rock tomorrow.

Tranmere Rovers Team News:

The only doubt for Tranmere is forward Ian Moore with a virus. Paul Henry will be back for the Rovers after a 3 match ban. Chris Shuker and Gareth Edds will also be available again.

Player to watch: GODWIN ANTWI

The Liverpool loanee can play as either a defender or as a midfielder and has a promising future ahead of him. The Spain under-19 international has had previous loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Hartlepool scoring once in 36 games.

Match Facts & Stats

The two sides have only met 12 times before with Tranmere winning 3 and City winning 6 of them. Previous players to play for City and Tranmere include Frank Worthington, Iain Hume and former player and manager Rob Kelly.

Match Prediction:

I predict that City will run out 3-0 winners with Fryatt, Dyer and Howard grabbing the goals. City’s home form will be vital this season.

Next Fixtures:

City travel to Fulham for a 7pm kick-off on Wednesday night for the second round of the Carling Cup.
