Peterborough United chairman Darren MacAnthony has rejected Leicester’s attempts to sign striker Craig Mackail-Smith on loan for the rest of the season.

Similar offers were also turned down from City’s Championship rivals Reading and Watford for the 25-year-old former Dagenham and Redbridge man.

Peterborough Director of Football Barry Fry told theposh.com: ‘The chairman believes in the great escape. He believes we have a genuine chance of achieving the impossible and wants to try and keep the players at the football club.

‘We have therefore turned down offers from three Championship clubs to take Craig on loan.’

Mackail-Smith has found the net eight times so far this season for struggling Posh, who currently prop up the Championship table in 24th place, ten points adript from safety.
