Expect Leicester City’s new management team to make their first signing in the next few days. Their need is for at least one defender.

Manager Rob Kelly confirmed as much on Saturday when centre-back Patrick McCarthy was sent off against Leeds – the second time he has been dismissed against Leeds this season – a decision which will mean a two-match ban.

Swedish International Patrik Gerrbrand is a potential replacement and Danny Tiatto can fill in at left-back but there is no further defensive cover because Alan Sheehan is some way off fitness with a groin injury.

Kelly confirmed after Saturday’s match that the club would probably have to make a loan signing and that he and Mike Stowell would consider the situation at the beginning of this week.

City had enquired after Plymouth Argyle’s experienced defender Rufus Brevett last week but nothing materialised.
