Kelly hails his “bonded” ally

They’ll be calling Leicester City The K&S Musketeers soon because that famous motto ‘All For One And One For All’ seems to be echoing around the Walkers these days.

If one thing is the epitome of the Kelly/Stowell regime it is teamwork.

And not just the team on the pitch. There is important psychology at work because Kelly/Stowell are involving the crowd too in a rare and clever manner.

‘We might have had a man sent off but we had 11 men on the field throughout,’ said Kelly referring to the wondrous support his players received after McCarthy’s sending off this afternoon.

He talked of today being the day when the team and the supporters ‘bonded’ and, again, he was right.

The fans have been fed up this season. Fed up of losing, fed up of bad performances, fed of individuals not giving of their known best, fed up of loooking at a League table that read more like a date with the hangman.

Not any more. Kelly/Stowell have straight away instilled the one thing that fans demand …commitment to the shirt. Ninety minutes of honest effort and belief in what they are doing.

They have done it n a way that has made underperforming players feel proud of themselves again, non-players feel a part of the squad and fans feel that their efforts not only count but are appreciated.

Suddenly the place seems happy again and the feeling has translated itself to the fans.

Players are literally working until they drop. Fryatt looked absolutely shattered when he came off the field and I doubt there was anyone who couldn’t justifiably say the same.

Colin Gibson, speaking on Radio Leicester offered a point too by saying ‘everyone seems to know what the are supposed to be doing now.’

You also see it on the touchline. Kelly doesn’t just talk about teamwork. He and Mike Stowell set an example in the way they work together, constantly exchanging/discussing ideas and options as the match progresses.

The effort at Leicester has been there for a long time, but the spirit seemed to be lacking because it takes special people to engender and to galvanise spirit.

Now,it would seem, the crowd has joined the team in being a real part of that spirit.

They literally sang the normally vocal Leeds crowd into silence today. It was a heartening sight and one that augers well for the future.
