Leicester City striker Billy Kee has been called up to Nigel Worthington’s senior Northern Ireland squad ahead of Wednesday’s key World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.
The 18-year-old is currently on loan at League Two Accrington Stanley for much-needed first team experience. After scoring a hat-trick on his pre-season debut, Kee has since made six appearances for the Stanley first team.
Kee’s call-up follows the news that Kyle Lafferty looks likely to miss the home tie at Windsor Park through a knee injury. Lafferty scored Northern Ireland’s opening goal against Poland yesterday evening.
Kee has been only been a part of the Northern Ireland youth setup inside this year, and has since progressed rapidly through the international ranks. He was a part of the Under-21 side which lost 2-0 to the Czech Republic on Friday night.
