Great Point For Pearson

Manager Nigel Pearson was very pleased with our ‘disciplined’ display against Arsenal yesterday as we took a well deserved point on home soil.

In front of the Sky cameras, Leicester no doubt won a few more fans with our style of play and with how well we coped with the threat Arsenal can provide, and speaking to lcfc.com following the game, the gaffer couldn’t have been more pleased with our workrate, ethic, and discipline on the day to keep our shape and follow the game plan.

‘I thought we played well again – three games in the Premier League where we’ve acquitted ourselves in a positive manner. I know we’ve not dominated games possession wise in the way we did last season but in all three games, we’ve created chances to score and that is very encouraging. For all Arsenal’s possession and attempts I don’t think we were as stretched as possibly people would expect.’

Again Arsenal took the lead in the game, but the players’ heads didn’t drop, they didn’t worry, they simply dug in and kept going and Leo Ulloa grabbed his second goal in three games a matter of minutes later to draw the scores level.

For Pearson’s talk of their possession – they bossed it with 69% – the vast majority of their chances were off target, they only got three more attempts than us on target, which shows they were restricted in opportunity and for all that possess they rally didn’t do much with it which defensively should be a huge boost for us.

‘We’ve shown a level of discipline which is going to be important moving forward because every game at this level is very tough and we’ve shown we’ve got resilience, but we’ve got capabilities as well in terms of our quality. We showed an understanding of how to limit quality opponents to few real chances, we kept them at arm’s length and that’s not easy to do.’

Having gone behind again on home soil, Pearson says he wasn’t overly worried because he felt all game we were showing the belief that we could go on and win it, so to respond that quickly again did the confidence the world of good, but now we have to stop leaking the early goal and responding and put those efforts into keeping a clean sheet and taking the lead ourselves – but that will come.

‘It was great for us to get something out the game, but we continued to press for that win – unfortunately it didn’t come.’

Surely only a matter of time with how we are playing and who we have played so far you would think.
