Leicester City went down to their second home defeat of the season to a Sheffield United side who had previously failed to win away all season.

City had not conceded for 3 league games going into the match but Danny Webber’s goal after 56 minutes was enough for The Blades to take all 3 points.

Megson started the game with his familiar 3-5-2 formation. Fit again midfielders James Wesolowski and Stephen Clemence both starting in midfield. DJ Campbell was brought in for the suspended Iain Hume in the only other change from the 0-0 draw with Scunthorpe.

Leicester were soon forced into a change of personal however as first Stephen Clemence and then Campbell were substituted in the 1st half after sustaining injuries. On came Shaun Newton and new loanee striker Collins John.

Leicester’s midfield from here on in contained only 1 recognised central midfielder, Wesolowski, this despite Megson allowing Radostan Kishishev to join Leeds on loan.

New striker John started well and looked to be a marked improvement for the strikeforce that has failed to find the net in the last 3 outings.

City however failed to create chances throughout the first half and were made to pay when Phil Bardsley, on loan from Manchester United, crossing for Danny Webber to open his account this season.

From then on, City failed to mount a meaningful response and it was all Sheffield United.

Megson tried to change things, Levi Porter coming on for Bruno N’Gotty as City changed to 4-4-2 to try and chase down the equaliser.

Ultimately though City failed to create any chances and it was United looked the most likely team to score, James Beattie having an effort ruled out for offside.

City finished the game having had only one shot on target the whole match, much to the disappointment of the home fans who will be hoping that Phil Gartside was not watching the match.

‘Megson for Bolton’ was the cry as Leicester suffered another poor performance and slipped to their first defeat in 6 games with little more than a wimper.
