Give it full throttle Craig

Credence at last. A Leicester Mercury headline today screams the message some of us fans have been shouting for months… ‘Fearless” Youngsters Are Vital to City’s Escape Bid’.

In previous weeks those youngsters were actually vital to our chance of fighting for a play off place.

But now our only target is survival and the Mercury quotes Levein as being convinced his young bloods hold the key to Championship survival.

He’s right and he’s sung the praises of young players before. Trouble is when it comes to his selections and when it comes to his tactics he’s invariably half hearted.

Levein mentions Ryan Smith, Matty Fryatt, Joey Gudjohsson’s return, James Wesolowski. But he played Wesolowski for 15 minutes on Saturday. What use was that?

Richard Stearman has emerged as a brilliant attacking right back. He was faltering early on in the season but Levein persisted and the Leicester-mad full-back has been a contender for Man of the Match week after week.

But where was Alan Sheehan, the one left back with a decent first team results record, all that time?. The ready-made partner to Stearman rarely won a place on the bench yet City conceded goals galore down that side and posed no serious attacking threat from that quarter whatsoever.

Iain Hume similarly, though a fast and forever threatening young footballer, has rarely had more than a token look-in while people like Kisnorbo and Hughes have continually underperformed.

So enough of the words Craig. If our fast and brave young bloods are the key to survival then play them and be damned.

Could they do worse than two points from the last 27, or those six successive defeats and whole string of statistics so bad they’d be written out of history in some countries.

We’ve lost all but one of our away matches this season anyway. What’s another one?

Why not back those so-often empty words and play the youngsters, play the people with a bit of skill and try to win a football match which is really the only requirement of a manager.

But don’t field a disjointed team where half the components are unable to cog in with the other half.

Our young players have the energy and stamina to press the game and the opposition cannot score if the ball’s forever in their half.

Let’s cut the convenient patronising of youth and show real faith in them. For the second time after Sheffield United let’s stamp our mark on a football match. Let’s show the people of Plymouth what a good side Leicester can be. Saturday wasn’t good.

And take Lee Morris with you too. One half from him as a winger is worth far more than Hughes’s attempts in that position. That or adapt the system.

Give the job a chance instead of playing people out of position. Do something wholehearted. Football teams are supposed to play football.

You have to compete to do that but what’s the point in competing if we win the ball and give it away because those who win it aren’t good enough to keep it?.

Let’s just for once Craig play a team with no voluntary weaknesses and without a single player who cannot pass properly. Let’s play with speed and play with conviction.

Let’s do our club proud for once. Not in some strange inexplicable theory. But in fact. We don’t want any more lame excuses.
